Before the inspection

How to prepare for your appraisal.

A little preparation helps the inspection move efficiently and gives the appraiser access to the information needed for a complete analysis.

A practical homeowner checklist

Provide clear access

Make sure all rooms, garages, basements, attics, mechanical areas, and relevant outdoor spaces can be safely viewed.

Gather improvement details

Prepare a simple list of renovations, approximate completion dates, permits, and major system replacements.

Share relevant documents

Have surveys, floor plans, prior appraisals, condominium information, leases, or recent inspection reports available when relevant.

Handle ordinary tidying

You do not need to stage the home. Basic organization simply helps the appraiser see features and move through the property safely.

Secure pets

Keep pets safely contained so doors and gates can be opened as needed during the inspection.

Point out hidden features

Mention less-obvious upgrades or property features, but allow the appraiser to conduct the inspection independently.
